“MUSIC REVIEW: Cynthia Basinet "The Standard" a truly amazing album that needs your musical attention
Cynthia starts off this amazing and wonderful collection with a classic song called "Santa Baby" and serves the song total justice. With this being said I wanted to get to the meat & potatoes of the album.
The next track is a standard that sets the tone for this wonderful & really enjoyable album called "Someone to Watch Over Me" and Cynthia really has the sounds that emulate these golden vintage songs of yesteryear. I feel if you can do a song in this way then you deserve to be heard and noticed for what you have to offer to the music world.
"Haunted Heart" the next song on Cynthia's album is just that "Hauntingly awesome, Cynthia has a voice that really reaches into the music archives and is just "wunnerful"…”

“Cynthia Basinet Height, Age, Affairs, NetWorth, Biography, Now”

“I had to relearn something today: I always thought this version of Santa Baby was by Marilyn Monroe. My bad! Actually, Cynthia Basinet recorded it in 1997 as a gift for Jack Nicholson but somehow the rest of the world still credited Monroe. I wonder if this works to Basinet's advantage or whether it is just annoying?

This is a perfect song for Christmas Eve. After all, a girl's gotta dream, right? There are other less tolerable versions of Santa Baby which try to go for the cutesy pie appeal but they fall short of Basinet's smooth style and classy vocals. See what you think:”

“Setting a new standard… The Standard" lives up to its name. Next to the two X-mas classics that open the album, "The Standard" is an album full of standards from the great American songbook, re-captured and revitalised by Cynthia and her production crew.

More often than not covers deliver but a bland substrate of the original. Not in this case. Cynthia effortlessly masters the great #Jazz and #EasyListening originals featured on this album. Without exception each track on "The Standard" holds its own when compared to the original…. Cynthia’s sultry, jazzy, voice gently touches these old horses and breathes new life into them. Her voice easily adjusts to the different musical styles, yet remaining distinct and clear. This album is no cheap thrill but recorded and produced with respect for the originals.”

“The Myth… She sang ‘Santa Baby’
Many attributed the saucy festive tune to Marilyn, but no reliable source confirms that she ever recorded it. Eartha Kitt, yes, Mae West, yes, Kylie, yes. Marilyn, no. The version attributed to Monroe on various dodgy file sharing sites is apparently Cynthia Basinet.”

“It's (Cynthia Basinet "Santa Baby") wonderful.”

“Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful,” model Rosie Vela used to say in her ’80s TV commercial. That line echoed through my mind as I listened to fashion model and actress Cynthia Basinet’s new compilation of material, a wildly varied group of songs from her previous CDs, none of which I was familiar with. Like Vela, Basinet ventures into the classy, well-dressed world of smooth jazz but there’s more creative adventurousness percolating here.
Vocal jazz enthusiasts who will delight at Basinet’s mournful rendition of “Someone To Watch Over Me” and a deceptively innocuous but very erotic “Santa Baby” will have an ear-popping experience near the end of the record when Basinet’s dance-club stompers “Yellow Taxi” and “God” beat to the rhythm of a different drum. In this case, a synthetic one; the soulfulness of Basinet’s For all the cuteness of “Santa Baby” and bounce of “Yellow Taxi,” there are some depressing songs here. “Eventually” is the agon”

The rigged media benefited the 1 per cent, she said, emphasizing that it had been the Sahrawi cause that had ignited her interest in media activism. Progress on that cause had been blocked for 16 years by the rigged media, she said. “Jack Nicholson’s MANY loves

"The pop singer sang (an iconic) version of Santa Baby, which she later gifted to Jack, who remained a close friend after they parted way romantically.

"These days, Cynthia is not heard of very much. She devotes her time to her humanitarian work, which is focused mainly on the issue of the 200,000 Sahrawi refugees who are living in the area of the Western Sahara desert. When she went there to visit, she made a statement that read, “As a single mother, I understand only too well what lack of security can do in undermining what the Saharawi believe in and wish for as a society. Their ability to withstand all for 30 years in the pursuit of self-determination is truly a role model for us all, as we enter the new millennium. For they had displayed faith, honor, compassion and resourcefulness in the face of such opposition.””

“Glamorous redhead Cynthia Basinet hooked up with the diminutive acting great (Jack Nicholson) in the mid-nineties. She even recorded a cover version of 'Santa Baby' for him as a gift in 1997. Something which we're sure still haunts ('Haunted Heart') her to this very day.”

“Review: "Cynthia Basinet Flirts with Santa Baby While Paying Homage to Eartha Kitt"

"Eartha Kitt had success with the song "Santa Baby," way back when, because she made it a tease, but in a tasteful manner and she made it warm. Cynthia Basinet’s presentation in both her singing of this classic Christmas song and in her video makes the phrasing of "Santa honey," warm and inviting, while "Santa cutie," is flirtatious, but not overtly sexual.

The song "#SantaBaby," was never a song that was meant to wow the listener with power, nor was it intended to be an up-tempo, sing-along. The song was always meant to tastefully seduce the listener and to evoke the desire to be that #SantaBaby, as the singer flirts with her audience, whether it is an audience of one or thousands or millions. #CynthiaBasinet has accomplished what so many singers after #EarthaKitt failed to do and that is she has retained the essence of the song, while making it her own and not merely serving up a do over or a copy”

Cynthia's "Santa Baby" has since appeared in soundtracks most recently, CBS's "NCIS Los Angeles" and the indie cult classic, "Party Monster" with Macaulay Culkin.
